Automatic “Sword-Through” Strapping Machine: Features for Three-Dimensional Pallet Strapping and Packaging Stability

As palletized logistics expand, ensuring loads remain stable during transport, warehousing, container loading and long-distance distribution is a key outbound challenge. For many pallet types — full cartons, grouped bagged goods, sheet/board loads, or exported wooden pallets — film wrapping alone may not meet stability requirements; strapping is therefore increasingly essential. The automatic sword-through strapping machine uses a sequence of “sword insertion through the pallet bottom → automatic tensioning → heat-seal and cut” to create a strapping path that tightly anchors the load to the pallet. The equipment is widely used in export packing, electronics, food & beverage, printing & paper, glass & ceramics, furniture and other sectors.

Sword-through design creates true bottom-through strapping
The sword mechanism guides the strap under the pallet so the strap forms a closed loop that secures the load to the pallet base. Compared with manual wrapping, sword-through automatic strapping saves labor and ensures consistent strap routing and uniform tension. Typical compatibility covers pallets ~1000–1200 mm wide and strapping heights of about 1300–1500 mm, with further customization available to meet specific pallet dimensions.
The machine’s strapping head is electrically driven with approximately 300 mm stroke and VFD speed control so the sword insertion stays smooth at different positions. After insertion the strap retracts, the tension unit performs secondary tightening to secure the strap against the load surface, and the strap release/reset sequence readies the system for the next cycle. This method suits neatly palletized cartons as well as composite stacks of glass, ceramic semi-finished goods or other fragile items where consistent tension is critical.
Heat-sealing and secondary tension improve strapping reliability
The automatic sword-through strapping machines typically uses direct electric heat sealing to fuse PP or PET straps into a secure joint. Compared with metal-buckle methods, heat sealing eliminates buckle loosening or deformation risks during transit. Tension is adjustable from 0–100 kg to match cargo weight and packaging structure — higher tension for heavy pallet loads, gentler tension for delicate or deformable goods. Cycle times are around 15–17 seconds per strap, and the machine can perform parallel two-strap or cross/“hash” four-strap patterns for stronger three-dimensional restraint; this is particularly effective for containerized export shipments.
Integrates with conveyors to form an automated strapping cell
The strapping machine can be linked with roller conveyors and coordinated via photoelectric detection so the sequence of sword insertion, tensioning, sealing and cutting completes automatically once a pallet arrives in the station. The system supports both manual and fully automatic modes, includes emergency stop and fault indicators, and is designed for safe, controllable automatic operation.

A beverage company with high throughput struggled to match manual strapping to line speed and faced inconsistent tightening from manual operation.
